It was with great sadness on Thursday that we learned of the death of Pelican's founder, Dave Parker. Dave was a giant of a man – both physically and mentally. He gave me the opportunity to set up the UK operation on the back of one handshake – such was his way. The first time he met me – I had arrived in L.A. dressed in full British business attire of suit and tie - was a memorable first: “Hi Eric- you been to a funeral or going to one?”
There are so many of us who owe our living to him. A man who will always be remembered by all of us who had the privilege of meeting him.
Dave set up Pelican (known as Peli in Europe) with his wife, Arline, from their garage in California in 1976. A keen scuba diver from a young age, Dave initially focused on creating products for the dive market. The Pelican Float, a reusable, high-visibility buoy, came first. The Pelican Protector case range and the SabreLite torch soon followed.
Today, Pelican employs nearly 1,500 people worldwide and many others benefit directly from Dave's hard work, not least the millions of customers who use his products every day around the globe.
From all of us here at Peli UK, we would like to express our sincere and eternal gratitude to Dave, and send our sympathies to his friends and family at this very sad time.
